India,
the Home of one of the world's oldest living civilizations, and a land
of multiple religions and innumerable languages, but still has a common
thread of emotion connecting the nation with its population. That is
probably why India always figures first in everyone's favourite sections
in History. India has the richest cultural background that boasts of
commanding forts, great battles, fascinating ruins, awe-inspiring temples
and monuments - in short, India has everything in the right measure
to make it a tourist heaven. It's not just another destination, India
is a complete experience.
Eco-tourism is more than a catch phrase for nature loving travel and recreation. Eco-tourism is consecrated for preserving and sustaining the diversity of the world's natural and cultural environments. It accommodates and entertains visitors in a way that is minimally intrusive or destructive to the environment and sustains & supports the native cultures in the locations it is operating in. Responsibility for both travelers and service providers is the genuine meaning for ecotourism. Eco-tourism also endeavors to encourage and support the diversity of local economies for which the tourism-related income is important. With support from tourists, local services and producers can compete with larger, foreign companies and local families can support themselves. Besides all these, the revenue produced from tourism helps and encourages governments to fund conservation projects and training programs The United Nations has declared 2002 as the INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF ECOTOURISM. The World Tourism Organisation and the United Nations Environment Program have taken the lead in organizing activities for the coming Year at the international level. The meeting not only focuses on the growing importance of ecotourism, as a sector with great potential for economic development remarkably in remote areas where few other possibilities exist - but also as a powerful tool for conversation of the natural environment if it is properly planned, developed and managed. |
